White Projectors; Green Technology
NEC’s NP2200 ($2,399; www.necdisplay.com) and NP1200 ($1,999) feature an ECO Mode that extends the projectors’ lamp life by as much as 3,000 hours and also lowers power consumption. The mountable projectors integrate a carbon footprint meter to document your energy savings, and the amount you save displays when you start up the unit. Both projectors offer video connectors for VGA (analog video), DVI-D (digital video), 5-BNC (composite video), and multiple audio inputs and outputs. When connected via the VGA cable, you can control the projector directly from your computer, and NEC’s AutoSense technology automatically syncs the projector with the computer signal. You can select from five bayonet-style lenses for optics with the ideal throw ratio, projection distance, and projection angle. Handheld, Hand-Powered Mobile Charger
Easy Energy’s YoGen ($39.99; yogenstore.com) is a mobile phone-sized charger with a ripcord that you can pull to power your portable devices. Thus, you won’t need to search for an outlet for a quick power-up. Easy Energy indicates that it delivers a similar amount of power to a typical wall charger, and after a minute or two of pulling, you’ll have provided enough energy to revive a portable device with a dead battery. YoGen powers your devices through a cable that accepts interchangeable tips that fit devices from Apple, LG, Nokia, and Sony Ericsson. Easy Energy also announced the YoGen MaxT, a foot-operated charger capable of delivering the 50 to 60 watts of power necessary to recharge notebooks and netbooks. The electronic devices that make our lives easier also produce some unwanted side effects on the environment. Fortunately, many consumer electronics manufacturers are now making products that keep us productive and lessen our device’s energy demands. Read on as we uncover some of the newest environmentally friendly technology available. A Nuo Type Of Case
Nuo (www.nuo-tech.com) manufactures cases and bags that are free of PVC material, are made with water- and vegetable-based dyes, use recyclable plastic and nickel-free metal, and incorporate 100% or partially recycled polyester. For example, many of the products in the Kailo Chic collection use eco-friendly cotton canvas fabric and lining as well as PU trim and dyes free of AZO (chemical colors that are difficult to remove from the ecosystem and not biodegradable). Nuo’s eco-friendly messenger bags ($59.99) are made with a 95% cotton canvas (5% synthetic leather) and feature a padded laptop compartment, storage pockets for mobile devices, and a rear exterior pocket for files and magazines. by Nathan Lake
