Corsair 32GB Flash Survivor

BOTTOM LINE
$249.99 • www.corsair.com
This is one hardy flash drive, especially considering the Flash Survivor endured being run over by a midsized van.

Rugged and hardy, the Corsair Flash Survivor will protect your data in every way a USB drive possibly can. The exterior of the drive is made from CNC-milled, anodized, aircraft-grade aluminum that can withstand an accidental drop onto cement. We also discovered by trial that it will tolerate being run over by a midsized van. A band of rubber, called a molded shock-dampening collar, protects the flash drive from vibrations during impact. This band was pretty banged up after it was run over by the van, but afterwards it was still intact. And the Flash Survivor also features an EPDM seal that makes it waterproof for up to 200 meters. The Corsair Ultra Rugged Flash Drive package also includes dog tags and a USB extension cord.

The Corsair Flash Survivor is available in 4GB, 8GB, and 16GB capacities, and it contains TrueCrypt open-source software in order to protect your data from the inside. The software installed quickly and easily, thanks to the plug-and-play capabilities. This software produces on-the-fly encryption, meaning that data is encrypted automatically without any action taken by the user.

You can copy your files and documents via drag-and-drop to a mounted TrueCrypt volume, similar to that of a regular USB flash drive. TrueCrypt file-hosted volumes are normal files that are storable on any kind of storage device and host independently encrypted virtual disk devices. Additionally, you can use keyfiles. These are files that contain content combined with a password. Unless you present the correct keyfile, you cannot mount the volume. These features work in tandem to ensure no one will be able to access any sensitive data stored on your device.
